I thank Fundación Esperanza for having built my house. I’m very happy because I made very rapid progress. I have been at the foundation for less than 2 years and they have already built it, thank you for the support I received.
The process to be selected to build my home with two bedrooms and a bathroom, living room and kitchen is that the requirements were to go to the La Morita community center for 3 consecutive Mondays, because it is where the meetings are held and they inform you about the essential documents. The social worker gives you an appointment to go to your home, where they do a socioeconomic study, then there is another appointment where the architects come to review the land and if they approve the land, you start to save 500 pesos (about $25) a week for a year, and when I saved 25,000 pesos that covers the first part of my house, the construction of the blocks.
And it’s very satisfying when they deliver the machines to make the blocks for the construction of your home. It's all a very beautiful process because the people who are in the program support you. It's a little tiring and heavy but it's worth it. I think, ‘Oh! I am doing something and tomorrow I will have what many will not have.’ As in my case, many of us went to ask for information, and about 6 families did not stay because of the work required, I was the only one who stayed.
A lot of community members have asked, and I’ve given them a lot of information around the support and help that volunteers provide and how quickly they work, and that’s how I keep helping the community so other people can receive the same rights and benefits that I have received.
I am very happy, because I have a safe home. I thank Esperanza and its team of volunteers. Thank you!
