LONG-TERM VOLUNTEERS

Long-Term Volunteers

Serving as a Long-Term Volunteer (LTV) is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of Tijuana and better understand the complex issues surrounding the border region, develop leadership skills, work towards social justice, and exemplify mutual trust.

LTVs with Esperanza serve for a period of 6 to 12 months. Their main duty is to be a leader by helping make positive connections between and with the groups and community members in FEM’s home building program. LTVs work closely with people of all backgrounds and cultures. They live in Tijuana, Mexico at the Posada, volunteer, and receive a stipend.

2019 Long-Term Volunteer

“Opportunities to do great things don’t come often, Esperanza presents that opportunity to everyone. For me, volunteering with Esperanza was an adventure of a lifetime that gave me far more than I gave to it. The lifelong friends I made have filled my heart, and the deeper understanding of Mexican culture has opened my mind. I am eternally grateful to the staff, community members and volunteers of Esperanza for sharing with me such wonderful things that have enriched the story of my life.”
